NAM JUNE PAIK MUSEUM     Location  Seoul, Korea   Date 2003   Status Conceptual Design; with DIN Projects

A mute, rectangular form that is repeatedly interrupted by programmatically figures and topographic conditions characterizes the proposal. The formal tension of the envelope is paralleled in the interior by the continuous distraction of exhibition space by public areas and ‘back-door’ programs. The strategy of continuous destabilization and interruption of expectations is introduced immediately in the entrance lobby that is shared with the loading dock. Ancillary programs and spaces allow 24-hour access and guarantee a diversity of visitors and events. In the spirit of Fluxus, the form of the museum becomes a social infrastructure that demands continuous re-invention.
